Nunavut Arctic College Nursing Students Receive the Queen Elizabeth II Scholarship

Six students from The Bachelor of Science (Arctic Nursing) were recognized at this year’s outstanding recipients of the Queen Elizabeth II Scholarship Award valued at $3,000. The ceremony took place on Friday, February 14, 2020 at the Frobisher Inn in Iqaluit, NU. The Awards were presented by Minister of Health George Hickes and Joanne Idlout.

“The work of Health depends on the work from our nurses, I look forward to having more Nunavummiut nurses who understand Nunavut culture and unique needs of our people and our communities. This scholarship program is just one small way that the Department of Health hopes to help and encourage Nursing students to continue and excel in their studies to try to minimize financial barriers to educational opportunities and recognize outstanding academic achievements”, said Minister Hickes. “I want to thank you for your commitment and I look forward to your graduation”, he added.

Each year, Department of Health awards the Queen Elizabeth II Scholarship valued at $3,000 to up to 6 top achieving students in Nursing, and the top Inuit and Non-Inuit students are chosen based on having the highest accumulative grade point average or GPA in their respective years, years 2, 3 and 4.
